Time for some changes

It’s time for a big change and no we are not getting married! I am talking about my job. After some months of thinking this over I have decided to quit my job and do my own thing.

I know, you might think I am insane to quit something safe these days where a lot of IT companies are throwing people out but I had to finally take this step and give it a try.
So, what will I do from now on? Well first of all I have several projects to finish that I am already working on, Ruby on Rails development, Typo3 and some Asterisk things. Some new things are already waiting, so I can’t really complaint of getting bored and I can’t really manage all these things after work and on weekends so that is mainly the reason that I decided to quit.

So, if you are looking for some one to solve your problems, integrate a VoIP system, do some web development or a nice website just contact us (yes us, we both are working on similar things)

Tocmai am primit asta prin mail, nu stiu exact sursa dar nu conteaza.

In orasul meu, inca o saptamana. Inca un weekend. A venit si toamna. Si
ploile. S-au tampit si mai tare cretinii in trafic. Dar daca saptamanile
trecute am avut parte doar de incidente periculoase care m-au facut sa
realizez ca pot sta linisita la stop si ma poate face un imbecil cu un
Audi praf, zilele trecute am avut parte si de ceva momente amuzante.
Joi am vazut o scena geniala

De la Podul Marasesti spre Budapesta, strada cu o singura banda
paralela cu linia de tramvai. In general, jmecherii merg pe linie.

De data asta, in fatza mea, o printzesa cu o mashinuta superba (imi
scapa marca, dar arata spectaculos), mergea ca toata lumea cu 2 km/h,
dar in stilul ei, cu cativa centimetri pe linia de tramvai, desi avea
loc o gramada in dreapta.

Apare si tramvaiul. Claxon. Inca unul. Inca unul.

Printzesa impasibila isi continua mersul de melc fara sa schitzeze macar
ca ar vrea sa elibereze linia sau ca, macar, ar interesa-o ca sta
tramvaiul dupa ea, ca asteapta oamenii. Ea vorbea la telefon si se dadea
cu gloss.

Momentul de senzatie s-a petrecut cand vatmanul si-a luat avant si i-a
zburat gratzios oglinda laterala! Ea, shocata, mai da si sa-si deschida
portiera si o infige in tramvai.

Incepe sa tzipe, sa-si intinda capul pe geam ca o lebada.

“*Nenorocitule! Te dau in judecata! Tu stii, ma, cat costa mashina
asta?*”

Vatmanul deschide si el usha lui si ii spune cu o voce ireal de calma:

“*Papushe, cauta-ma tu la depou, intreaba acolo de Nea Vasile. Si daca
nu iti dau io banii pe oglinda, poate iti dau baietzii o mue, sa mai
mergi si altadata pe linie, la misto”.

Push mail for iPhone with Cyrus and z-push

Some days ago I came across z-push a very interesting open source project. I decided to give it a try and see how it works with my iPhone.
I really didn’t expect to be up and running in only 5 minutes! So I won’t write anything here about the installation, just read the manual and everything should be clear.
But there are two things I have to mention if you are using Cyrus.

Synced mails will be marked as read! The solution for this is in this post in the z-push forum
Sync might not work due to encoding problems (iPhone will say that there is no connection to the server). The solution for this is in this post in the z-push forum.

After solving these two issues everything worked perfect! The only problem that remains, and this is nothing z-push can solve, is the battery usage of the iPhone. Be warned! Your battery will be empty after 2 days in some cases even after 1 day. This really sucks, I have to admit, this is where BlackBerry will get a point.

Cars need water

It is the time of year where I drive with my old MK2 Golf made in 1983. Although it’s pretty old, it’s still a reliable car. Doesn’t quite like cold days, but after some minutes it drives pretty good.
Well, yesterday I was reminded how old this car actually is and that you can expect some problems from time to time.
Driving on the A23, not the best freeway in Vienna to have a breakdown, I noticed the temperature was climbing very very fast and also the red light started flashing. This is never a good sign so I stopped, probably at the one only place on the A23 where you can stop, and called OEAMTC.
In the meantime I tried to see what’s wrong and it looked like there was a leak and I lost all the cooling water. Not good, not good at all.
But it wasn’t a big problem, the hose was shortened by the guy from OEAMTC, fitted back in and filled in new water and that was it. My old baby is running again. Just have to get a new hose in the next days since this one seems to be pretty old and it could break again.

How to avoid being ripped of by your GSM provider

If you have ever been in a non EU country you sure know the problem with roaming. The prices are really exagerated! As we have been in Ukraine the passive roaming would have been 1,50 Euro! 1 Euro fifty just for receiving a call. I really don’t understand these prices.
Well, I am not writing this to complain about roaming costs, I want to help you save money
So, what can be done to save some bucks and not give the GSM providers a CENT!
My solutions works by using a asterisk server, a local SIP number from the country I have my GSM contract and a local SIM in the country I am in (in this case Ukraine).
What I have done is to forward all calls to the local SIP number I have (free), this SIP number is picked up by my asterisk server which then called my on my Ukranian mobile phone (about 0.09 Euro) so I get the same result for 1,41 Euro less, per minute!

So, if you are in the same situation as I was and don’t have time to set up your own asterisk server and find some cheap VoIP routes to your destination, just contact me and I will help you
