Isolated living Indigenous people spotted

Funai, a organization dedicated to the protection of indigenous people from Brazil, has spotted some indigenous people in the Amazons near the border to Peru. Pictures where made from a plane flying over the area. You can see some huts and the land they cultivate. The indigenous people responded to the airplane with bow & arrow. There is no intention in establishing a contact to the people and Funai will try to keep them protected from the outside world.

Look at the images and take a minute to think about it. Hard to imagine, today in a our world people living completely isolated from the outside world. While we are complaining about some spam mails, high fuel prices and other things … these people don’t even know what electricity is.

The complete article from Funai can be found here

The end of the world is near

Well the title is a bit exaggerated, what I am talking about is the European Soccer championship. I’m not really a soccer fan and when they close some major streets in Vienna due to the stupid championship …. well then I am kind of pissed. If it would have been in August when most of the people are on holiday and the city quite empty … well that would have been perfect, but in June? I guess there will be a lot of traffic around the first district in Vienna which will affect non soccer tourists. I will try to avoid anything within reach of the “Ring” (the street where parts of it will be closed). I am sure a lot of people will be surprised about the street being closed since I didn’t quite hear or read about it, it’s more an accident that I was there and noticed the sign mentioning the one month blockade of the street. The good thing is that I don’t really have to go in that area, to work I use the freeway. The only problem would be visiting my parents which would lead me either near the “Ring” or near the Stadium, which sure will be also very crowded. Well, all we can do is just sit and wait. I’m curious if the Austrian authorities did everything right.

One more year has passed

Yes, another year has passed and the last year has started before I change the age prefix. 30 … sounds so old :) I want to thank everybody that called to wish me all the best, and for those who haven’t called … well there is my wishlist where you can buy something so I will forgive you :)

I was just kidding of course. I really don’t judge anybody who forgot, how could I ? I forgot about every birthday. I just know the really really important ones, my family and my sweetest of course. There was no big party, just a small celebration. The big party was, as almost every year, at Woerthersee in Austria during the biggest VW Tuning event. Anyway, for those who still don’t know me … I don’t give much about fix days. I don’t need to get presents at my birthday I don’t necessary five presents at some ones birthday or other occasion where one would expect presents. The year has 365 days, at least most of the time, where you can give your loved ones something special?

Finally a message to my friends, Yes I do like Glenfiddich Single Malt, but please, next 5 years no more Glenfiddich, I have a collection of about 10 bottles! I should organize some big “Single Malt Party” so everybody can come and help empty the bottles.

Having fun with windows …

no I am not joking.
I received this today:

1: You can’t create a folder named CON in windows
2: If you create a new file with notepad and write the text “Bush hid the facts” (without the quotes), save it and reopen it, the text is “hidden”.

Well … it might sound like something really bad but it’s just a bug and there is not much behind it.

to 1. CON like LPT1, COM1 … are DOS devices and somehow windows gets confused and refuses to create the folder.

to 2. The text “Bush hid the facts” is not what causes notepad to hide anything. The problem is that the text is misinterpret as UTF-16, this bug can be reproduced with several sentences, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_hid_the_facts

As you can see, these are just software bugs and there is nothing more behind it :)

Sad, but true, this is Romania!

Somehow I came across this blog: http://transylvanianhorseman.typepad.com/transylvanian_horseman/2008/03/the-end.html
Even though I left Romania 21 Years ago, I sill have a good contact to my “home” country. Friends, relatives … and there was a time where I even thought about going back to Romania. Well I have changed my mind meanwhile. Well, back to the blog I mentioned, most of the things where not new to me but there where some things that surprised me.
The comparison with Hungary will pretty much piss of a lot of Romanians, but let’s face it, it’s true!
I can just agree with everything that was written in that blog.
No matter where I live and how long I am gone from Romania, I will never forget where I came from and I will always consider my self being a Romanian, no matter what citizenship I have. It just pisses me of to see the country I come from being destroyed like this and the worst thing is that it’s not being done by foreign people.
There was a saying I once heard “Romania is a wonderful country, to bad it’s already populated”
I could continue to write about this subject … but I just give up. I won’t hope that things will get better. The fighting spirit is gone, everyone is just complaining but no one stands up and actually does something and if there is someone that stands up to change something …. well then there is the corrupted politicians that know how shut up these kind of people …

Unlock your mobile, the safe way

Some days ago I “bought” a new Nokia 6300. Bought is probably the wrong word, I extended my contract for 2 years and got the phone for a good price. The problem was that it was sim locked and since I will continue using my iPhone with my sim, I needed the nokia to work for a different provider.
I was used to quick and fast unlocking for nokia phones, unfortunately the new phones aren’t that easy to unlock. There are some shops doing the unlocking for 25 Euro, but you loose warranty and you risk that something in the software will get screwed up. So, what else can you do? Well, here is a very very easy and safe way to unlock it. Simable! go to simable.com and order a “unlock” package.
You will receive a tool to create a hole in your actual sim, don’t worry, it’s just in the plastic and you will get a very thin “sim” that you put between the real sim and the mobile.
This takes only 2 minutes maximum and you have a unlocked phone, or rather a unlocked sim.
It costs 25 Euro and arrived in Austria from the UK in 3 days!
