Some days ago I came across an article about Reuters creating a Virtual Company in "Second Life". Ok let me start explaining … Reuters, the company dealing with news … that might not be so new to you. But Second Life? What's that? Don't worry if you didn't know, you are not old Nobody I asked knew about it and I also didn't. Well Second Life might sound like some religious crap, but it's "only" a online game, a virtual reality, a second life, thats where the name comes from.
So what on earth has a news company to do with a virtual reality? Well, a virtual life needs virtual news, sounds kind of logic. Also reuters provides news from the real outside world to the virtual world so that people still know there is a outside world.

Well this might sound crazy enough for some, but this is not what I wanted to explain with this blog, it will get even crazier, believe me!
As in a real life, you can earn money and buy things in this virtual world. Some have more money, some less, like in real life. But some want to transform the Linden Dollars, thats how the money is called in second life, to real money so they sell money and goods from the virtual world, in the real world for real money. Sounds strange? Read these lines and tell me that the world is still normal

For example, in Second Life up to US$500,000 in user-to-user transactions take place every day, and the economy is growing by 10 to 15 percent a month.

Let me repeat this slowly … 500.000 US DOLLARS! ( REAL MONEY ) every fucking day! People sell virtual goods, bits and bytes, for 500.000 US$ A DAY!
Now as if this wouldn't be weird enough, it gets worse! The US Congress is thinking about how to tax this money that comes out of the virtual world.

people who cash out of virtual economies by converting their assets into real-world currencies are required to report their incomes to the IRS and other national tax authorities, depending on where they live in the real world.

What's next? The mafia protecting your virtual goods?

Here in this article, on the right side, you will find a currency converter, Linden$ -> US$, yes a currency converter to know how much real money, the virtual money is! My brain is still fighting with this kind of information, I mean … I really live digital, blogs, websites, web galleries … but this is far beyond my imagination. Not that it would sound something so technically impossible, it is kind of hard to imagine somebody spending money on something that doesn't do anything and doesn't exist. But I wanted to see how much do people really spend so where could somebody look for such information? Where can you buy almost anything on this planet? On eBay. So I did a quick search for Second life and what I found was more then just one auction selling Linden Dollars!

Get the money you need in second life to buy the hottest clothes, propertys, and items you want and need.

This is what I could read in one action, the seller was selling 10.000 L$ and the auction ended for 40US$ (real money). I did some research on the buyer, the buyer has bought in the past 2 days virtual money and payed 203 real US$ for this! You thing that is much? Check this out. The seller I did some research on sold in the period from 1.Oct. - 18.Oct virtual money on eBay, and got 1.445 real US$, yes, thats one thousand four hundred and forty-five real US$ in 18 Days.
What the fuck is wrong with you people? Get a life!

I almost forgot that I promised a blog about "Casa Bunicii" - Grandmothers house in Sighisoara. Well thanks to the blog of my darling
it reminded me of this forgotten blog. We looked at the site of "Casa Legenda" the house offering some rooms and Grandmothers house. The Photo looked great, so we decided to stay there. We all kind of made our own idea about the bathroom since there where no photos of it, the site says:

a bathroom with a tub, lit by candles, thus creating the perfect intimate ambiance

Well this sounds really nice, so why not put pictures on the site? Well this question was answered as soon as we arrived there, nobody would like to se this bathroom, so for all people that are curios … here are the missing photos
But this wasn't the worst part … for the weekend we have been there we could have accepted this also the mold on the walls since we didn't sleep in that room. But one of the rooms, in which Papulos decided to stay was full of mold and of course papulos didn't want to stay in that room! So we went to eat and Papulos searched for a new room this took about 2 hours in which his baggage was still in the room he didn't want. That was not quite the best idea to leave it there but, come on .. 2 hours? Anyway, the boss of "Cassa Legenda" didn't quite agree with this so Papulos talked with him on the phone the next morning. In the meanwhile (the day before, after the 2 hours) he told the employee that he doesn't want that room and cleared the room. So only they baggage was in the room for two hours, that's all.
Well after some talk with the boss, they kind of agreed that it's OK, so we thought that everything is OK. Well in the evening as we got home we found a note, that Claudia has to go to the reception, since the reservation was made by her. As we arrived there, the employee was talking on the phone, with the wife of the boss. So Claudia wanted to explain the situation once again but the second boss ( his wife ) started swearing and yelling around. I called Papulos to instantly come and talk to them since it was his problem. He took over the phone and again the swearing and yelling began. This is a very inappropriate behavior and shows a lack of intelligence. Well since they (the owners of "Cassa Legenda") started the fight, we thought it didn't have any sense to continue talking and told them we will call customer protection and see what they will say about mold in the rooms. The answer of the boss was a simple "we give a fuck about customer protection" not very nice. Oh … before I forget … the room was already given away! So I realy don't understand why she got so mad about this.
Well after she kind of got us all mad with things like "she will come with the police" "she will trough us out" and other things which I do not want to post. We told here that we are waiting for them to come and we can discuss this personally, but of course nobody showed up!
Well we did as we promised, we called customer protection and made a complaint, we will see what will happen here.
On the last day, she, the wife of the boss, called again, to apologies and to tell that her husband is some kind of big boss around ( forgot his function ) and if there will be any visit from customer protection, she will invite Claudia to court.
Well now it's up to you if you want to stay at that place But if you do, great our friend Ricky that lives in the bath tub.

Yesterday I had to reboot my server after it was unreachable. It all started with nagios sending me some sms, to many process, http doesn't respond, https doesn't respond …
As I finally managed to try to login it was already to lade, the server wasn't responding anymore. After a reboot everything was fine again, but not for long. Again from the same many connections to apache where made so I added the ip to the firewall blacklist and now it's silent again.
But this is not a final solution, I made some new adjustments to Apache, now only limited connections/IP are allowed, I tried first 5 but although I wasn't doing much I got the "Service temporary unavailable" message so I increased it to 10, further have I set the MaxClients count from apache from 150, to 100 and I am thinking of reducing it further, I will have to do a stress test some day. The next step will be bandwidth limitation, some domains are already limited by mod_bandwidth but I would like to solve it different and not with a apache module. Well some information really comes when you need it, a friend of mine pointed me to TC (traffic control) so I will take a look at that, when I have time.

I was just playing around with some features of Aperture after watching some tutorial movies. Now this is a great piece of software, thank you apple! I would like to demonstrate what big difference you achieve by editing the photos. Of course you could just do it right with the camera, but I don't earn my money with this so it's ok for me if my photos are not perfect and need a retouch on the mac First, the original one, then one edited slightly in iPhoto and the last one just played around in Aperture with Heights and Shadows, now I love the result of the last one.

Just heard this today morning on the radio …
A teacher in the US went with the kids to an art museum, one of the kids saw there … oh … this is sooooo bad that I almost can't write it (by the way, I'm ironic!) the kid saw a picture of a naked women, OH MY GOD ! This is shocking! (still ironic). The parents of the kid complained about this to the school and the teacher lost her job!

Well here is part three of the road trip
Saturday was photo day! I have shot several hundred pics I had a total of almost 800 photos made from friday to sunday, where friday I didn't take so many and sunday even less, so almost all photos where made on saturday. The first part of the day, coffee, food, sight seeing. I can only repeat, Sighișoara is a GREAT place! I will be going there again, this is sure!
  The second part was meeting with the guys from VWforum this was a bit short, but still it was interesting
After this, it was once again time for sight seeing and photos. Well here I think is best I will let the pictures talk the link to the pictures will be at the bottom of this blog.  So now to sunday, the next adventure day. After so much bad luck on the way to Sighișoara, could it get worse? Yes it could …. We arrived quite fast to Mediaș and I was already starting to think that we will arrive fast to Timișoara but then I saw Vlady pull over and a black liquid tail behind his car, his oil-sump had a hole after he drove after a big rock. So what could we do? First of all get to a city since in the village where we stopped nobody could really help. I towed Vlady until Sibiu (about 40 km) but since it was Sunday, and the chance that somebody could fix this fast, even if we would find someone, where quite low. So we decided to tow him until Timișoara (about 300km). But with my car being automatic, it was better that Foka took over the towing. A very big THANK YOU at this point! That was really a big help! But please remind me when something like this happens to me that that I will not let myself towed from you, at least not in romania.
  As wee went towards Lugoj, I couldn't keep up with Foka and Vlady since I was trying to not hit some road hole again, we took this road since it was 50km shorter. But if you are not towed … take the way over Arad! So I will end here my third and last part of the road trip blog.

Dear Abby,

I’ve never written to you before, but I really need your advice on what
could be a crucial decision. I’ve suspected for some time now that my
wife has been cheating on me.

The usual signs… phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My
wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I
ask their names she always says, “Just some friends from work, you don’t
know them.”

I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always
walks down the drive. Although I can hear a car driving off, as if she
has gotten out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn’t in a
taxi? I once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and
she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again
and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep
down I just didn’t want to know the truth, but last night she went out
again and I decided to really check on her.

I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson motorcycle next to the
garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the whole
street when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my
Harley, that I noticed that the valve covers on my engine seemed to be
leaking a little oil.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the
dealer?
