Well I have got two wish lists in my sidebar (right side) and from there you can order me something
Firs is the Amazon wish list, the Canon EOS 5D is rather as joke on the list since I do not expect that anybody would spend over 2000 Euro but hey, I will not say no if you buy it. The second list is from thinkgeek, mostly t-shirts. Since I always spend all my free time in front of the server, I never have time to go buy me clothes and I am kind of running out of wearable T-Shirts! I mean such T-Shirts where you can go on the street without getting arrested

Today I received my FON router for 0 Euro quite a good price for a router with 2 Wireless interfaces. I will not start explaining what FON is all about, go to www.fon.com and read for your self!
Well I opened the package and goood the plastic they use has such a bad smell, it burns like acid in your nose, but … it's free
This was alas not the only problem I had. I could connect to my public SSID but not to the private one. After searching the FON forums a bit I found out that there seems to be some problems with Mac OS. The manual says the Private network is WPA with TKIP but this should cause no problems to my mac so the only way I could connect to the router to change settings was with my Palm since I have no windows pc anymore at home, thank good. Well anyway, I managed to connect with my palm and check the settings, the Private interface was set to WPA/WPA2 Mixed and encryption to mixed, after changing this to WPA and TKIP everything worked fine on my mac.

Here I am, back home after some days in Romania. Time kind of passes faster if you don't have to drive and you are more relaxed when I arrive but I noticed that even if I don't drive I get pretty pissed of when some other drivers behave strange. Foka (the driver) was also happy with this since he didn't have to scream and say all the nasty words to the other drivers. I could also express our feelings to the other drivers with gestures (like showing them a special finger, or 2 or other things that you can do with bare hands), maybe this is also a reason why I was quite relaxed after arriving.
The way back home was quite ok except for the short delay at the Romanian border. Not that it was much traffic but they where moving like a snail on dope! They checked the passports from the people in front of us as if they where reading a book, I have no clue what on earth could take so long. We passed under 1 minute and at the Hungarian border it was also quite fast.
Ok now I real all my dozens of new emails and finished the photo editing and upload so I think I will get some sleep.

Some might have noticed the increasing amount of new spam that comes as image. This makes it impossible for a spam-filter like spamassassin to filter anything since the content of the spam is hidden as image and the text in the mail is random or some pieces from lord of the rings.
The solution? OCR ! There is a nice plugin for spamassassin called ocrtext. This little plugin, among with some other tools will fight spam that comes as image. Also new tricks, like animated gifs which can bypass other ocr plugins, will be recognized by ocrtext. I have only done short testing. But I think next week I can say if it was successful or not since I recently got a lot of image spam, this really pissed me of so I finally decided to do something against it.

Finally after so much time it came to my mind to ask in some forum what the problem could be. After a search on google I cam across a german video editing forum, digitalvideoschnitt.
I got a reply quite fast and I just tried it out and it worked. The problems seems to be when the camera is plugged in to the source! The problems don’t occur when running on battery! The problem seems to occur because of a ground loop since there are 2 grounds, the firewire and the source. Sounds strange but it works and that’s what counts!

One Week Back to Windows - OSNews.com

One of the things that has always made Unices so popular and admired was the shells out there. In fact, most operating systems today have some sort of a competent CLI interface. This is for two reasons. Firstly, in order to offer a way to automate repetitive tasks. Secondly, because you may expect to login remotely, without having access to a graphical environment. And thirdly, because there are cases when you will simply discard the GUI, like when running a web server.

Windows sticked to cmd.exe, which is essentially a slightly polished version of command.com. Command.com itself is little more than a CP/M shell clone. So essentially, cmd.exe offers the same facilities which computers were offering 25 years ago, on Z80-based machines. Needless to say, this is very painful

Oh yes how true. I now have to search for some software that can change the size of some images in batch and also watermark them. Since ImageMagik is available for windows it would be quite easy if windows had some usefull shell, but how do you do this on windows?

I always had this problem since I have my Panasonic NV-MX300! I do not know how to explain the problem so I will demonstrate it with this movie

Noticed the squares appearing two times at the beginning? This can be only from the camcorder. I do NOT have this on the tape if I play it with my camcorder (the same as used for recording, as mentioned, the Panasonic) on TV I do not have these problems. It can not be from the software, I had this in Pinacle, Vegas on windows and also on the Mac in iMovie and Final Cut so there is no way this could be from software or the OS. Neither could it be the hardware, it occurred on my old PC (1.7GHz), Laptop(3GHz), Mac Mini and on the iMac.
I once had to capture a movie from a different camcorder, also Panasonic but a different model and there I did not have this problem. So what is this and how do I solve this? Or is there some external device I could use to capture the tapes?
